“The upcoming MacBook Pro is an example of Apple’s renewed focus on Mac loyalists. The company is planning to bring back an SD card slot for the next MacBook Pros so users can insert memory. By now there are countless flash cards designed to sit perfectly inside the MacBook Air’s SD card slot and boost the laptop’s storage as an extra onboard drive. But the TarDisk Pear is the. It couldn't be easier. Click on the SD card image either on your desktop or on newer macs in the finder menu. When you click it will open an window showing content on the SD card.
The SD format is a standard used by devices such as digital cameras to store files like digital photos, although like HDDs and flash drives the SD card can contain any file as long as they can fit in its memory. SD cards are non-volatile memory cards when compared to flash drives, which are volatile. It’s this stability that gives the SD format a solid reputation in the digital storage industry.
On all of my own Macs that have SD card slots, I've found those slots to be temperamental insofar as consistently reading cards is concerned. Some cards are read easily. Others are troublesome. A cheap USB 'card reader' seems to work much better. They now come in USB3 speeds, so getting files from the card is pretty fast, too. Step 1: Simply put your SD card into the SD slot and let the computer read it. The SD slot of a typical Mac should be able to access standard 4MB- 2GB standard SD cards, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) 4MB-32GB cards, 4GB-2TB SDXC, MMC (MultiMedia Cards), and UHS-II (up to 2TB) cards, but the last one only works on iMac Pro.
What You Need
You will need the following:
- SD card
- Passive adapter
- Laptop or MacBook computer
- PC or desktop Macintosh computer
Steps Involved in Deleting Files from Your SD Card Using a Mac
- Step 1: When deleting files from your SD card using a Macintosh computer like the iMac or a MacBook Pro, you should connect your SD card to your Mac PC or laptop through the SD slot. It should be on the sides of your MacBook laptop or the front/back of your iMac desktop tower. This process is true of any removable disk.
- Step 2: If your computer lacks a small enough SD slot for certain cards, you can still access the SD using a passive adapter. This adapter allows Macs to access small SD cards like MicroSD and MiniSD as well as their higher density equivalents like MicroSDHC and MiniSDHC by confirming with the thickness and width for these cards. Once the SD card is accessed, your desktop should then feature a drive icon. At any rate, double click the drive in order to access its files.
- Step 3: You can select the files you wish to delete by mouse then right-click for the dropdown menu (or press Ctrl and click) and pick delete. Or you can highlight them all and then push the delete button for good measure. In order to not need to manually highlight the files, just push Cmd+A in order to select all files then delete them by a right-click menu command or by pushing the delete button, whichever you prefer. All the files will now end up in the Trash program.
- Step 4: You also have the option to click and drag your files for deletion to the Trash. Just remember to empty the Trash for your memory card to regain full capacity. You can also preview the thumbnails of the files to pick and choose which ones you’d rather save and which ones you’d rather be rid of. Just hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the Trash icon, and then select Empty Trash for permanent deletion.
- Step 5: Speaking of permanent deletion, you also have the option to outright reformat your SD card from your Mac. Just click on the dropdown menu for Format, select MS-DOS (FAT) if your card is 32 GB or smaller and ExFAT if it’s a 64 GB card. You will be asked if you’re sure if you want to erase the partition followed by the SD card’s name. Click Erase and you’re through. Formatting the card will clean up your SD card as though it’s never been used.
Conclusion
If you have a vast quantity of files to delete it’s more practical to reformat your drive. The same could be said of your Macintosh HDD, to be honest. Your Mac’s SD slot should be able to carry standard 4MB- 2GB standard SD cards, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) 4MB-32GB cards, 4GB-2TB SDXC, MMC (MultiMedia Cards), and UHS-II (up to 2TB) but the last one only works on iMac Pro.

The Macbook Pro laptop computer made by Apple Computers has only a few models that give an SD card slot (which in other models takes the place of the ExpressCard slot). SD cards are multimedia data storage cards that support digital media like photos, music, video and other files. They are mostly found as removable memory in digital cameras, cell phones, handheld video game devices and other electronic devices. Before the SD card slot option on the Macbook Pro, you would need to buy a USB adapter to plug the SD card into or would have to connect the digital device or camera yourself to the laptop.

- SD card sizes
Apply claims that the dimensions of the SD card slot can hold a card up to 32 mm by 24 mm by 2.1 mm which is a set size of an SD card. Micro SD and MiniSD cards can be put into a plastic adapter sleeve (that normally comes with these memory cards) and then the whole thing is slid into the slot. Adapters or cards that are bigger than the standard size can damage the card slot and should not be inserted under any circumstances. - 2How to place the SD card?
The card needs to be inserted face down and slid into the opening. When the card is in order, the laptop will detect the card just like it would detect a USB device or removable hard drive. Remember that the card might extend beyond the slot. Moreover, the metal contacts on the SD card needs to be on the downside when placing the card. On the other hand, Macbook Pro detects the card very quickly and within the timeframe of a second or two. A removable drive will also be shown on your Mac OS X desktop. - 3How to open the files on the card?
The simplest way to access the contents is to click twice on the removable drive icon that shows on your desktop when you place the card. The icon will appear such as a white hard disk drive on its own. If you have set a name for the SD card or it was named by the device it itself, the name should display under the icon. Click twice on the icon to open “Finder” and you should be able to see the contents on the SD card. Opening a file will start the particular program you want to see.
